MGA GITARISTA

Filed under: Uncategorized — freaku @ 9:13 am

a few weeks back, i saw this episode in MYX Studio 23, about philippines’ finest guitarists (i was supposed to write about it but i keep on forgetting) they have compiled this album called “Mga Guitarista” (guitarists) that include barbie almabis, francis reyes of the dawn and of course the great legends rj jacinto, jun lupito and noli aurillo. this is an album by these great musicians that are already around the music scene for decades. this album earned my respect. imma get their album, it should be great!

by the way, i watched barbie almbis played Shapes of Things, which she said she composed specifically for this album. she rawks. she really is a great guitar player, and made guys eat their dusts. Open-mouthed  wish i can be like her. yihee.

anyway, i read this blog about this by a certain “coldphonics”. he was able to take pics of them arists, so read more HERE.

omg look!!!

“the pic shows a small cute girl with two heads. As she grew, the attached head also grew with her and that made her parents worry. Eventually they sent their daughter, ie the girl, to Singapore to have the attached head removed. It’s very fortunate that the surgery operation was successful and the girl could now lead a normal life.”

is this even true? this must be an old tale but i just gotta post this cause this so freakin rawks!

and amazingly scary!

Philippine police officers told to smile, or else

Philippine police officers were instructed Wednesday to smile in public or face suspension in an attempt to spruce up their image as rough and rude.

The new guidelines were announced after one of the country’s bloodiest weeks in crime. Ten people were lined up and shot dead in a bank robbery last week, and on Monday, a man went on a killing spree in a farming town that left eight residents dead.

“We are encouraging policemen to be community friendly,” police Director Leopoldo Bataoil said. “There is no place for rough and brusque officers in this organization.”

He said police were responding to public complaints over officers’ behavior at road checkpoints.

“Good morning. Good afternoon. Good evening. Sorry for the inconvenience. Thank you so much. Sir/Ma’am … these are words of courtesy which the public wants to hear from us,” Bataoil said.

He said officers who fail to follow the guidelines will be charged administratively and face suspension.

DAVID COOK WINS AMERICAN IDOL 7

I was supposed to write this entry after watching the finale. but i got too caught up with werk i decided to write later. plus, id like a decent review for myself, not a blabber. lmao.
anyway, omg i cant believe it. david cook won the idol! ive always had a gut feeling that david archuleta will win. prolly because hes young and most of the judges seem to favor him, plus he is marketable. cook, in contrary, looks trashed and as simon said: arrogant. but dude, rockers are arrogant and trashed!! how do you think ozzie osbourne survived? Tongue out anyway, its cool that cook won. its a turning point because it opened the door for wannabe rockers. david cook is a rocker, while american idol is mostly for balladeers, pop-py singers (remember our fellow rocker brother bo bice?) for the first time, american idol and its voters seem to expound and accept different genre, considering rock is not ALWAYS an acceptable type of music for most people (especially not, God not, in a singing, polularity contest!). guess its time to teach simon cowell another type of music dont you think? Tongue out (considering how cowell sorta distates it when cook sings a rock song unknown to him (joke). i mean, its cool that cook always manages to annoy simon by defying the “standards” of american idol; like not singing ballads and changing the “sound” of a certain music. but still he is able to maintain what the judges want: sticking to their themes (like when they were asked to sing opera/theatre songs under andew lloyd webber, and trying to sound original (as we know, when he sang mariah’s always be my baby). i have not seen anyone taking risks and ending up successful.

archuleta, on the other hand, also isnt that bad. his accomplishments aint so bad for a 17 year old, i must say. however, i like david cook more.

simon’s apology also was also an interesting part of the show. i listened closely to what he said, not only because i was curious to know what he realised what, but also since im rooting for cook, he’s offending me too dammit. Tongue out anyway, im glad simon apologized to cook, he deserves it. but if i’ve half a brain, i think simon is either jealous or attracted to cook. haha

its also fun to see the other contestants again. good to see brooke white and michael johns. michael johns was great, too bad he was eliminated early on. he would have been great. ive always thought it would be him, cook and archuleta that would battle in the top 3.

anyway, the shows fun. loved it when cook played with zz top. very cool.

on another note, i just heard josiah leming, if you ever saw him from the first part of american idol (audition part), got a deal with warner brothers. not bad for a crying dude living in a car alone! i just hope this time, his parents know about the deal tho cause as i remember, his parents werent aware of his whereabouts. poor dude.

generally, the show was cool. it was cool seeing syehsa mercado doing duets with the great seal, and brooke white with graham nash.

by the way, i was so surprised to see how brian adams and george michael look so old! i mean, old. Surprised scary.

dude.

David Cook's performance had the judges calling him the true rocker of the season.

David Cook's performance had the judges calling him the true rocker of the season.

The judges were initially skeptical, but David Cook's take on Lionel Richie's Hello blew them away.

David Cook&#;s rendition of "Eleanor Rigby" earned him high praise from all three judges.

this week, we have been receiving high volume of calls. considering we are understaffed, the calls just flooded, and i lost my voice. the company nurse recommended no talking/whisphering for a day. having to take no calls was cool, but having no voice sucks.

Brooke White – I am I said

AMERICAN IDOL

aww. i was so sad to see brooke white go. shes one of my favorites, and to see her go, is just… sad.

i really liked her rendition of Neil Diamond’s “I am I said”. it sounded new and almost different, cause as far as i can remember, Neil Diamond sorta like blabbered on that song (song must be specially personal to him, dont you think?) ,  but with brooke’s version, it almost sounded like a complete song. i again, agree with randy jackson when he said: with song as hard as this one, brooke was seen very vulnerable on flaws et al., but in contrary, if you really listen to it, she did a very good job. as what randy said, there is a lot going on with that song or simply put, lots of distinctive change of octave/notes in almost every word.
anyway, i still like her. shes got this carly simon / carole king touch and her piano and guitar skills arent so bad too.

Toto concert i missed

aww. i missed Toto’s concert in manila. :/
this sucks. during my stay here, i have missed lots and lots of good concerts. blame work that i just dont have the time to go, plus the fact that if i can go, i dont have someone to go with. :/
this really sucks.
all i can do i just gaze at their website and ponder.

this is not the first time i missed a good concert. the ones i missed big time were Beyonce’s, Maroon 5, Vertical Horizon and EWF. this time its toto. i hate this. who else am i gonne miss this time?

>.<

Toto is a great band with a broad music style. if you’ll listen to their music, you’ll hear a drop of folk, jazz, progressive rock and so on. toto 4 may be their greatest album as the songs we know about them are mostly there, but their other albums, will help you explore more on their music, and understand more about Toto, and you’ll be amazed how extensive their influences are.
on the other hand, i was so surprised how old they look now >.>   just like how i reacted about eric clapton and the eagles when they did a concert when they were.. older. tee hee.

DAVID ATTENBOROUGH

I just bought a DVD featuring Sir David Attenborough’s films. Eversince i can remember, I have always loved his books. Sir David is a naturalist and a scientist. He captured Earth’s “Lives” in various forms through his book and series “Life on Earth” which is about animals and plant life. It is one of the early books that I have seen as a kid, although I did not read through it, but just looking at his vivid and realistic pictures, it is understandable enough. The book is big and heavy, literally and figuratively. Life on Earth is one of the books that almost practically saw me through life. I could not remember if I let a month go by without at least looking at his pictures back home, and spend my time pondering about mammals and plants and wildlife. In fact, Ive always felt it was because of Sir David that I am quite attached with the environment, and why i wanted to be a biologist and scientist as a kid. Pity I didnt follow my guts about it.

Anyway, his series, The Life of Mammals, was amazing. The film, and Sir Attenborough, earned a well-deserved applause.

Read about Sir David HERE

Trivia:

Did you know that Sir David Attenborough, because of his life-long and global-wide study of animals, is considered the Most Well Travelled Person in the world? :)
